RECAPPING THE JOY OF THE SUN VALLEY CONFERENCE - EVENING #1

THE SUN VALLEY CONFERENCE WAS A JOYOUS CELEBRATION OF ROTARY FROM THE START

FIRST, THE PDG PARTY 4-5:30 P.M. ON 5.12.11

From front to back  Terry and Carolyn Gilbert, Shirley Fields, Sue Ann Hoge,  Tavia Gilbert,  Kathleen Simko, Gene Hoge,  Ben Simko,  Mary Timm, Jerry Timm,  Kevin Learned,  Ray Rigby,  Bret and Kristi Vaterlaus,  Marianne Barker, and Dick Fields.

District 5400 Past District Governors and Family Members Met on Thursday, May 12 to Talk about the Past and Look to the Future.  You'll want to meet these Rotarians who influenced our great District.

  Ray Rigby 1986-1987

Ray Rigby served as DG in 1986-87, the year RI adopted PolioPlus and the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Rotary must admit women causing him to travel the district to explain the ruling.  Ray, a member of the Idaho State Senate here poses with one of his five daughters, Beverly.   Thanks for your service, Ray.

Dick Fields 1999-2000

Dick Fields, an attorney, traveled the district with his wife Shirley who is pictured above.  During his term, our assistant governor program was launched.  Dick has served as Permanent Fund chair of The Rotary Foundation and was instrumental in the successful Million Dollar Dinner.  Thank you Dick and Shirley.

 Jerry Timm 2004-2005

Marcy Timm and Carolyn Gilbert converse at the party

The smiling Past District Governor above is Jerry Timm, flanked by Sue Ann Hoge on his left and Tavia Gilbert on his right.  Jerry served during the Rotary Centennial year, a great honor.  Jerry is the author of the Rotary Raffle that serves youth and our clubs.  Thanks Jerry.

Gene Hoge 2008-2009
Gene is one of the most gracious persons you can meet.  Here he hugs Carolyn Gilbert, wife of DG Terry Gilbert.  The RI slogan during his term was "Make Dreams Real."  Gene talks a lot about the magic of Rotary and will tear up as he talks about his trip to Ecuador and the poverty he saw there.  He will serve as Foundation chair from 2011-2014.  Thanks for your passion, Gene.

Kevin Learned 2009-2010
See that thoughtful fellow with his hand on his chin and a philosophical look on his face?  That's Kevin Learned who balances thoughtfulness with fun and a passion for the work of Rotary.  He and Gene Hoge served at Idaho Boys State in 1962 and have been friends since that time.  Kevin has led a GSE team to Nigeria, traveled to Ecuador with Gene and Mexico.  He has friends worldwide.  Amazing man.  Thanks Kevin for your great work.

THE HAILEY CLUB SPONSORED A GREAT PARTY
FOR OUR GSE TEAMS AND OUR PDGs
5:30-8:00 P.M.

The organizers included Shelley Seibel, president of the club, and Marguerite Sowersby.  Here's a picture of Shelley with her favorite actors, The Three Stooges!  Yes, she's kissing Curley on the ear, and he looks darn happy.  Moe and Larry are questioning what's going on, I see.

Here is a picture of Shelley and Marguerite I took when I visited the Hailey Club on July 21, 2010.
Thanks to both of you for the splendid work in organizing the party.

Yes, we had fun!  We played a "Get-to-Know-Rotary Stars" which required each participant to secure the signature of the Idaho and Indian teams, plus the past district governors.  We threw the completed documents in a box and pulled out a winner, promising a worthless gift.  And, guess who won?  Dipti, our GSE dentist!  Surprise.

Here is beautiful Dipti, a great sport, with the worthless prize.  (No, not Terry Gilbert-- the glasses.)

MEET THE PARTY-GOERS!
Srijat Mishra was hosted by Leo and Marcia Stavros in Hailey.  Srijat has written a blog of his adventures in Idaho and will submit additional ones.  Interesting reading!!

Dave Romero, entrepreneur and adrenaline junkey, posed with another Stooge!
Mary Gewarges with her charming smile seems not to influence the Stooges at all.  It's as if Larry, Moe and Curley are nothing but cardboard!
Dipti is prettier than any Stooge, did you notice?

Alok, GSE member and muscleman

Anil, the muscleman, not to be outdone by Alok

Pradip, the team leader, really became buff during his trip to Idaho.

I didn't catch GSE member Melanie DeLashmutt posing with either a Stooge or a muscleman, but I did catch her at the Friendship House the next night.  Like the other GSE members, Melanie represented us very well.

Lary DeLashmutt, Melanie's father did pose as a buff muscleman!

Police office Shellie Sonnenberg consented to pose with Phil Anderson, assistant governor.  Shelli works with the Boise area refugee community and testifies that her experience in India helped her understand refugees more completely.

Here Bill Agler, president of the RC of Boise Downtown, and his wife Marti, visit with Linda Groom, our GSE leader, and her husband Peter.  Linda took many pictures in India and is anxious to share them with clubs.
Geri Appel, our RI representative, obviously has a keen sense of humor, as does her husband, Ken Lehrman, seen below....

Who else posed either by the muscleman or The Stooges? Well, here they are.

Dick Fields, PDG (1999-2000)
Shelly Seibel, Hailey president, scared everyone in the room.
Gene Hoge, PDG 2008-09

Bret Vaterlaus, DGN 2012-2013

Kevin Learned, PDG (2009-2010)

FINALLY, THE BIGGEST STOOGE OF ALL!
